Solid Wood Flooring vs. Engineered Wood Flooring

There are two main forms of hardwood flooring types. Both engineered and solid wood flooring are beneficial in homes. Which is right for your home?

Solid Wood Flooring

Solid wood flooring is made from a solid plank of wood from one species. They come in a variety of widths and have the ability to be refinished. This type of hardwood is best used in rooms that have controlled temperature and humidity because they are more porous. This wood flooring has the ability to be sanded and finished many times, but may require more upkeep.

Engineered Wood Flooring

Engineered wood is a manufactured wood plank that is comprised of multiple layers of wood and plastic laminate. This is often confused with laminate flooring, but engineered wood flooring is comprised of real wood, while laminate has no wood in its composition. The appearance of engineered wood and solid wood flooring are almost identical. Engineered wood is a more affordable option for wood flooring, but does not have the ability to be refinished multiple times.
